Run the test first

A route optimizer can help on the route. It cannot remove distance, and a near, steady line gives it little to do. Run the test: a Close and stable result means nothing to buy here.

What GearUP says it does

  • It sends game traffic over GearUP's own network instead of the default route through your internet provider, aiming at lower latency and less packet loss. How GearUP describes it
  • GearUP describes itself as a booster for games only, aimed in particular at players on servers in other countries. GearUP's overview
  • GearUP says its network has over 7,500 nodes in more than 180 countries and regions, and switches route when it detects jitter or failures. Node coverage
  • On a phone, the app needs the system VPN permission, which GearUP uses to pick the route for your game. VPN permission
  • Consoles connect through GearUP's own router, HYPEREV, or a GearUP plugin built into some other routers. HYPEREV includes a NAT type optimizer. HYPEREV, consoles
  • The Windows version boosts one game on one device at a time; HYPEREV boosts up to two devices. Devices at the same time

Platforms GearUP lists: Windows, Android, iOS, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Oculus Quest, Pico.

What GearUP says it does not do

  • It does not speed up apps outside games; GearUP names social media and video streaming as examples. GearUP's overview
  • It cannot remove distance. GearUP's own example is a player in Brazil on a server in Singapore, at about 200 ms after boosting. Delay after boosting
  • On a strong connection close to the server, at about 20 ms in GearUP's example, the gain is smaller. Delay after boosting
  • GearUP's troubleshooting page treats weak Wi-Fi, other downloads on the home network and provider faults as problems you fix at home: restart or replace the router, use a cable, cancel downloads, contact your provider. High latency or packet loss
  • GearUP says it does not touch in-game data or gameplay. Is GearUP safe to use

When it will not help

Results of the ping test where a route optimizer has little or nothing to fix
Your caseWhy a booster will not helpWhat to do instead
Close and stableThe route to the servers is short and steady. GearUP itself expects a smaller gain here.Nothing to buy here. If the game still lags, check its own ping display and status page.
Close but unstableThe jumps come from your home network, which GearUP's own help page sends you to fix locally.A cable, the 5 GHz band, background downloads, router QoS.
A VPN is onThe test measured the tunnel, not your own route.Turn the VPN off and run the test again.
A game with no game serverIn a peer to peer game such as Elden Ring, one player hosts. There is no server route to pick. The Elden Ring page explains what decides lag there.
The distance itselfNo route is shorter than the distance. GearUP's own Brazil to Singapore example sits at about 200 ms after boosting.A nearer region, if your game, friends and account allow one.

The free trial, in GearUP's terms

  • The trial lasts 3 days, or the period shown at sign-up, and it needs a payment method. GearUP's User Agreement says the payment method is authorized at sign-up, which can hold part of your balance or credit limit for a while.
  • The plan bills when the trial ends unless you cancel before then, and it renews until you cancel. GearUP's auto-renewal FAQ says the first payment is taken about 30 minutes before the trial ends.
  • Turning off auto-renewal during the trial ends the trial at once.
  • The User Agreement says GearUP sends no message when the trial ends. The auto-renewal FAQ says GearUP emails 3 days before a scheduled charge and again on the day. Set your own reminder for the day before the trial ends.
  • Use a payment method that is yours, or ask its owner before you start.

On the 12 month plan, the checkout shows USD 48.55 (EUR 48.55 from Germany) due when the 3-day trial ends. Prices come from GearUP's subscription page at gearupbooster.com/pay/subscription, read from the US and from Germany on October 15, 2026; it is a checkout page, so this page names it without a link. Prices inside the phone apps differ by country and by store, and the App Store shows several prices per plan, so this page does not list them. GearUP lists the HYPEREV router from USD 62 before tax.

The test shows the GearUP link on two verdicts only: Far from the servers and Cross region. It also needs the VPN box unticked and a result tied to real server regions: the test without a game, a game whose publisher gives its full server list, a region you picked, or a published default for your country. Those are the cases where the route or the distance is the problem, which GearUP describes as its target. A close result never shows it.

The rules are on the method page, and how we make money explains the commission. Why Is My Ping earns nothing from other boosters or VPNs.

Questions about GearUP Booster

Does GearUP lower ping on every connection?
No, by GearUP's own account. Its help pages say the gain is smaller on a strong connection near the server, and that a far server stays far: about 200 ms from Brazil to Singapore after boosting.
Is GearUP a VPN?
GearUP calls itself a booster for game traffic. On a phone it runs through the system VPN permission to pick the route for your game. The VPN or game booster guide compares the two.
Does the free trial cost anything?
Starting it costs nothing. You give a payment method up front, and GearUP charges it when the 3 days end unless you cancel first. Turning off auto-renewal during the trial ends the trial at once.
